Situated at the edge of a jungle on Gaya Island, Gayana Eco Resort boasts spacious overwater villas with wooden interiors. It features 3 dining options, an outdoor pool and a spa. Complimentary scheduled ferry transfers is provided to Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal.

Each villa is air-conditioned and fitted with a 42-inch flat-screen TV. Some villas have a private pool and a separate living area. For your comfort, the private bathroom includes luxury amenities and a shower.

Very relaxing stay set amongst lush forest with beautiful ocean views. Don’t expect high-end luxury

The location is stunning. The bed was also very comfortable and we enjoyed the diving facility on site. Though we didn’t use it, you can enjoy kayaks and paddle boarding free of charge, and the free drink in the ocean view bar between 5-7pm is good too!

The resort needs renovating, its a little tired. They also market themselves as ‘eco’ but every time the cleaners came to refresh the room they left the lights on, ceiling fan on and air conditioning blasting out - despite us being out all day.

Excellent water activities, staff, and service

Snorkelling, paddle boarding, and kayaking around the resort was incredible. At first, we were mildly disappointed (with humanity, not the resort) because most corals seemed unfortunately dead, but the more we explored, especially during high tide, the more stuff we saw - clownfish (Nemo), Dory fish (Dory), parrot fish, giant parrot fish, giant clams, squids, stingrays, urchins, damsel fish, catfish, and many more we cannot name. We were also very fortunate to see monitor lizards, lots of hornbills, and macaques. The resort has the Marine Ecology Center within it that is trying to boost the growth of corals as well as the local giant clam population, which is fantastic to see. Kayaking in the mangroves during high tide was also excellent. A lot of the food was delicious. And we barely used the infinity pool because we spent most of our time in the sea, but that was nice too. The staff are all very kind!

Nothing against the resort, but the corals are unfortunately mostly dead because of climate change :(. It was still fantastic to see all the incredible marine life we did, and kudos to the resort for hosting the Marine Ecology Research Center there.

The hotel was lovely, the room was big and very comfortable, food at the restaurant was overpriced but very tasty. The staff was very friendly

I don't know that the services are worthy of the prices applied (minor things but at some point there was no toilet paper in the restrooms in the pool area, there are not enough beach umbrellas for all the lounging chairs by the pool, basic items such as shampoo and soap were missing from the room). Again, in a different hotel applying different prices, these things wouldn't matter so much but in a place that sells a 'luxury' experience, they're a bit more difficult to accept Then there are the things that are a bit out of the hotel's control but that still impact the overall experience, such as no real beach access, the trash (plastic etc) that washes up on the shore with the tide (there's truly a lot even though the hotel staff tries to collect it)

I was relocated to Bunya Raya Resort. it’s really a nice place for get away from City. relax and quite. 3 days 2 nights stay is a must so that you can enjoy the facilities and environment. all staff are very friendly. food also okay. will go again

Wonderful First Resort Experience

breakfast was amazing with so many options, which is one of the best part of the resort. staffs are FREAKING friendly and nice!! they all carry with smiley faces everywhere they go!! i can tell the smiles from their faces are real, not faking it. One of the most unforgettable experience was a staff was running from behind. when he almost crossed me he suddenly stopped and said "Good Morning" to me. I was like OMG why these guys are so nice and friendly here. their hearts are way better than the resort itself. Swimming pool is an infinity pool, which is perfect for taking pics. snorkeling was also great, can rent the equipment easily and swim with fishes. Kayaking was also quite an experience. And the Marine Ecology Research Centre is something more! i deeply appreciate how much attention that Gayana Marine Resort is paying to the ocean. Respect, and let's save the ocean now!

Nothing much to complaint about except about the working hours of the spa. we wanted to enjoy the spa a bit, but sadly we were too late to make a reservation and they off at 1900. it would be a bit better if the working hours is a little longer. but i also understand the staffs may not stay in the island so had to go home by ferry at late night. price could be a bit more cheaper :p Last but not least, the beach is not as impressive as i thought.

the room and balcony is only worth if you are check in into seaview property, jungle view is a big let down the seaview was so expensive for local not much of beautiful corals nearby

Private villa.

Private villa. A lot of monkeys and some will chase guests. Monkeys are very sensitive to smell of food. We reserved 3 rooms. And at the time kids are having snacks inside their room, there are 7 monkeys in the balcony and 10 monkeys at the front door. While there is a lady screaming in front that monkeys are chasing her. Kids tried to feed fish, the smell will attract monkeys too. I do not think having breakfast on balcony is feasible. Ocean Villas are good, water is clear and clean. For the villas on the forest side, there are more rubbish inside the water. We reserved 3 ocean villas. We enjoyed very much as there are a lot of fishes around, nice view. Free snorkelling and kayak. Kids took a course in marine research centre and they enjoyed so much.

There is a night the water is muddy and i didn’t notice but my hair cannot be dried at all.

Beautiful location, could use sister hotel facilities...

Beautiful location, could use sister hotel facilities located a boat ride away. Amazing to watch the fish from our balcony. Excellent MERC centre doing good work to save the reef and giant clams. Fantastic breakfast. Rooms were lovely.

Pool area was a bit tired, loose tiles and sharp corner which was a bit dangerous for the kids.

Excellent service and peaceful stay.

They helped to conserve the coral reefs which is very good. The place was very clean. The staffs were amazing and polite, properly trained. The room were spacious and beautiful. Provided kayaking and snorkeling. very peaceful to stay in there.

Everything is expensive in there, be prepared to pay US price for food and beverages.

Very relaxing. The path to the little beach ground the corner was sadly closed as it was in such disarray.

The staff were amazing and could not do enough for us.

The property was undergoing some repairs and it was obvious there was still more required. Our room had just been completed so it was beautiful. When fully complete it could be good value for money.

This is a perfect place to experience overwater villas on a...

This is a perfect place to experience overwater villas on a relatively decent budget...taking a dive into the crystal clear waters just after waking up! The staff was nice, the service very good (especially the breakfast delivered to your villa by boat - which is a must!). Very relaxing spa experience. Nice snorkelling experience, corals are mostly dead but still many fish, you can even spot out some Nemos if youre lucky.

Even if this property offers the amazing overwater villa experience at what might be considered reasonable prices (at least outside the high season!), marketing it as a five stars resort is a joke at best, if not an insult. The spatial arrangement of the villas is neatly done, with large rooms and terraces. But all the details are shabby and time-worn. Honestly most of these details would be unacceptable in a two stars rail station business hotel - like the heavily stained blinds. For the breakfast we had to carry outside a chair from inside the sleeping area. Because the missing chair was down in the water near our villa, showing the wear and tear of having been there for quite a while without nobody caring to take it out. At this point i must remind you that this is a property heavily marketed as an ecological resort, replete with marine research & restoration center and all that. Yet they will not arrange some staff every morning to clean out the plastic bags and tin cans casually drifting about the more hidden areas of the pontoons...a shame really.

Nice & relaxing resort (hopefully soon to be refreshed and upgraded)

Resort is very nice, a bit old but a great relaxing option just 30 minutes away from KK. Rooms with direct access to the ocean are amazing! Those with a private pool are just like in a dream! Staff was very friendly and polite.

The resort is and feels a bit old and needs a serious upgrade if it wants to be a competitive 5* hotel. There are a few basic problems (starting with no decent WiFi) that need to be tackled ASAP. Rooms could be refreshed and adapted to 2019 customers’ needs. Luckily they have brought in a new manager who was aware of those challenges and ready to face these. Good luck!
